You do not need to clearly decide at the time of enrollment whether you should choose the player major or the play & produce major. By studying jazz for one year, your future path will gradually become clearer and you can choose your major accordingly when advancing to the second year.

Two years immersed in music through classes and studio practice
Develop the improvisation skills you've always wanted

Instruction is tailored to each student's level, so even beginners will acquire improvisation skills by the time they graduate. In addition to comprehensive classes such as music theory and ensemble, students can also use the studios outside of class hours, allowing them to spend 2 years deeply immersed in music.

Many opportunities to support performances in other SHOBI departments and off-campus events

In Jazz & Popular department which trains students to become professional musicians, there are many requests for support from other departments—for example, backing singers from the Vocal department, trying out compositions from students in the Arrangement & Composition department or performing as a model band in recording classes of the Entertainment Staff department. These opportunities provide students with valuable hands-on experience. Students also have chances to perform in real settings through requests from companies and local governments.
